"title": "Boarding, daycare, and grooming software that was built by a pet owner, along with a company who runs a fully operational boarding and daycare facility.",
"body": "So i've been working on a boarding/daycare/grooming platform called Book'n Buddy for a while now, side by side with a facility that's been running on it in production. Posting because i think a few of you might actually get use out of the boarding side specifically, and i'd love feedback from people who run kennels for real.\n\nHonest take on why we built it: most of the software out there either looks like it was last updated in 2009, costs $150-200+/mo, or treats dogs like hotel rooms with no idea how to handle stuff like sibling pets sharing a suite, intact-dog surcharges, vaccine expiries that block bookings properly, weight tiers, long-stay discounts, etc.\n\nStuff on the kennel/boarding side that took us forever to get right:\n\nVisual kennel view. Every kennel, what's in it today, who's checking in, who's leaving. (first pic). It's the thing the front desk actually has open all day.\n\nGantt-chart style calendar so you can scroll a whole month and see overlapping stays. Capacity issues become obvious weeks in advance instead of the morning of.\n\nSplit kennels / shared suites. If a family books 3 dogs and 2 of them get along but the third needs its own space, the system splits the booking across kennels properly. Pricing stays occupancy-based (it knows 2 dogs in one suite is different from 2 dogs in 2 suites), and the family deposit cascades across the whole group instead of getting weirdly orphaned on one pet's record.\n\nAuto-assign or manual. You can let it pick the next appropriate kennel based on size + preferences when a booking lands, or you drag and drop. Some owners want it on rails, others want full control over every assignment.\n\nLate pickup fees, per-pet surcharges (giant breed, intact, medication etc), and tiered long-stay discounts are all configurable per business. No hardcoded \"industry standard\" nonsense.\n\nToday view for the desk staff. Pickups, dropoffs, deposit/balance status, all in one screen. (third pic)\n\nPayments — Square, Stripe, and Clover are all supported including in-person terminal/tap-to-pay. Deposits at checkout, card on file for repeat customers, the works. Whichever processor you already use, you keep using.\n\nPricing is $39/mo flat for the messaging add-on, and the core platform doesn't charge per booking. Payment processors do their normal % thing separately, we don't add anything on top.\n\nThat's basically it. Not trying to be spammy, genuinely curious what people running kennels would want that isn't in there. If your current software has one thing that drives you nuts every day, i want to hear it.\n\n[booknbuddy.com](http://booknbuddy.com) if you want to poke at it.\n\nAnd if you have grooming within your business we built that too. We worked with a local groomer who told us their issues with their current software. No matter what booking they had it only ever gave them 2 hours. - We listened. We made sure that our time slots could vary dependent on pet and visits. A new customer gets extra time to feel out the pet. A returning pet with notes that needs 30 extra minutes because he's afraid of the dryer is an important note. \n\nWhen client then re-books it auto adds this time into the booking. ( groomer is also notified of the additional time) \n\nWe created a coat based pricing engine not just breed specific or what i call a flat service. ever seen an online booking where the customer has to pick the weight tier, and cut style. Double coat dogs take more but really is that ever seen??? When your client signs up, adds their pet and their breed it categorizes it into the coat engine.. So now your bookings are based on coat type. \n\nWe didn't make grooming a side add on we made it for groomers by groomers. \n\n[booknbuddy.com](http://booknbuddy.com) if you want to poke at it.",

"title": "A Hidden Gem for Dog Care Businesses",
"body": "Pros: What I like most about the software is its flexibility. It can be molded into something that truly fits my business needs, and the developer is open to feedback and committed to making the platform even better.\n\nCons: What I like least about the software is that some settings are still a bit limited when it comes to each business’s specific needs. For example, not every business asks the same intake questions, so I would love the ability to customize those myself instead of relying on the developer for every change. That said, this is a very small drawback, and it’s something that’s already being worked on for future updates.",

"title": "I spent over a year building dog grooming software because every tool I found priced a Doodle and a Lab the same. Here's an 8-minute walkthrough.",
"body": "I am not a groomer. I am a solo software developer based in Alberta, Canada, and I have a Standard Poodle. If you know Poodle coats, you know grooming is not optional and it is not simple.\n\nAs a client I always found pricing hard to understand upfront, and honestly I get why. So much of what a groom actually costs depends on what you find once you get into the coat. A matted Goldendoodle and a short-coated Beagle at the same weight are completely different jobs, but most software prices them the same way.\n\nThat experience got me thinking. Over the past year I have been building a pet care platform called Book'n, and the grooming module has been the hardest part by far. Grooming has pricing complexity and workflow nuance that you can only truly understand by doing the work. So I have been building it with input from groomers along the way.\n\nI just recorded an 8-minute video walking through some of the grooming system. No hype, no fancy editing — just a screen walkthrough of how it actually works. \n\nHere is what the video covers for anyone who wants the text version:\n\n**Pricing by coat group, not by clicking through 200 breeds.** You set base prices for 6 coat groups — Short/Smooth, Double Coat, Curly/Doodle, Wire/Rough, Long/Silky, and Giant. Every breed auto-maps to its coat group. Setup takes minutes, not hours. Override any specific breed if you need to.\n\n**Weight tiers that stack automatically.** Define your own weight ranges and set a dollar add-on for each. When a pet is selected at booking, the system pulls their weight, matches the tier, and adds it to the base price. No math required.\n\n**Condition modifiers that adjust price and time.** Matting, severe matting, overdue grooms, first visits, difficult behaviour, sanitary trim; each one has a configurable price and time add-on. When a client says their dog is matted and has not been groomed in 3 months, the system adds the surcharges and extends the duration before the dog walks in.\n\n**Cut style fees.** Teddy Bear, Puppy Cut, Scissored Leg Clip, each style can carry its own price add-on. The business controls which styles are listed and what they cost.\n\n**Full grooming preferences captured at booking.** Body length, face style, ears, tail, feet, sanitary trim, coat condition, all saved to the booking so the groomer sees exactly what the client wanted. No sticky notes.\n\n**Groomer-specific scheduling.** Each groomer gets their own colour-coded weekly schedule. One-off overrides for sick days and short shifts. The booking system only shows a groomer as available when they are actually working. Calendar shows groomer columns so you see everyone's day at a glance.\n\n**Contracted and booth rent groomers.** Independent pricing inside the same system. A breed specialist can run completely separate rates from your house services.\n\n**Groomer preference and breed matching.** Clients request a specific groomer at booking. Breed specialists get routed the right dogs.\n\n**Books in and books out.** Every pet gets timestamped check-in and check-out tied to the groomer who handled them. Real record of how the day ran.\n\n**Monthly labour utilization.** Scheduled hours vs booked hours per groomer tracked automatically. See who is maxed out and who has room.\n\n**Groomer mobile app.** Groomers log in on their phone, see their schedule, check in pets, mark grooms complete, send photo updates to pet parents, request time off. Permission-based the owner controls what each employee can see and do.\n\n**Stripe payments and auto invoicing.** Invoice on checkout, receipt on payment. First-groom deposits collected automatically at booking.\n\n**Push notifications and auto emails.** Booking confirmations, reminders, receipts — all toggleable. Push notifications on the client's phone through the customer app.\n\n**Not just grooming.** This is one module of a platform that also covers boarding, daycare, training, board-and-train, dog walking, pet sitting, dental, and facility rental. Ten services under one roof. One client profile, one pet record, one calendar, one payment system.\n\nI built this because I genuinely believe grooming businesses deserve software that understands how grooming actually works. Not a generic appointment booker with a pet icon on it.\n\nIf you have questions or feedback I want to hear it. If you want to try it or do a one-on-one walkthrough, reach out anytime.\n\n[booknbuddy.com](http://booknbuddy.com) [[redacted-email]](mailto:[redacted-email])",

Where we tend to win: pricing is a good bit lower than Gingr, online booking is genuinely simple for clients (real-time availability, instant confirmation), and pet parents get automated reminders and daily photo updates baked in. Setup's quick too — no long onboarding slog.\n\nThere's a free trial, so no harm testing us next to Goose and seeing what clicks for your team. \n\nWe grew this based on customers feedback from our early Beta testers. we continue to update and adapt. would love to work with you and anyone else seeing this post \n\nThanks again \n\nJacek",
